Teaching a child to read

I have recently been helping a first grader learn to read. Three evenings a week I have a 10-15 minute long phone call where he reads to me. It brings me an immense amount of joy with each call. It's a small thing I can do that doesn't use more energy than I have. If you able to do something like this, I suggest you look into it. It's good to feel necessary again.
