Gifts for recommenders?

I’m planning on sending my recommenders hand-written thank you cards but am considering also including a little gift/gift card. Am thinking something consumable might be a good idea, since I don’t know their tastes personally. Would a gift certificate to a nearby independent book store be a good idea or does that feel too random? Is a coffee shop a better bet? If I go the book store route, what would be an appropriate amount for the gift card? Or does anyone have an idea for a particularly meaningful physical item to gift? 2 of my recommenders work in academia and the other is an immigration attorney.
