\- Suyin Beifong in The Legend of Korra: Suyin is introduced as Lin's never-before-implied sister in the third season. Why is she never mentioned before? The in-series reason is that Lin has been no contact with her for decades now due to Suyin's past toxic and selfish behavior. But, the series presents this as a flaw of \*Lin's\*. She should make amends with her younger sister. Lin gets berated for not wanting to be around Su or Su's family, until she gives in and reconciles with Suyin.

\- Mr. Llewelyn in Jem: Riot's dad. He is an abusive, implicitly queerphobic and misogynist military dad. He hated his son's love of music because, to him, "only women and sissies" are musicians. He went as far as to spank Riot growing up for playing the piano, as well as breaking his guitar. This led to Riot having a complex as an adult. Riot tried to join the military to please his dad. When Rory followed his dreams and became a rock star, his dad disowned him. But, in the end, the episode ends with the two reconciling.

\- Lusamine from Pokemon SM: Despite Lusamine being an abusive mess who neglects and disowns her very young (11-14 at most) kids, the game ends with >Lillie going to Kanto with her mom, in part to be a trainer and in part to help cure her mom of her ailment!<. Allegedly, Game Freak made Lusamine unsympathetic by accident. She was supposed to be a tragic villain because of her backstory, but just came off as abusive. Later takes on Lusamine (UltraSun & UltraMoon, Pokemon Adventures manga, Pokemon anime) try to soften her up.

[hated trope] Awful family members who get off scot-free because "they're family"/"family is everything"
