Ped home health client help
Hello,
I have a client who is 12 years old. He is verbal, uses 1-3 word phrases or scripts. Mom said he is hard to understand when he speaks, but since I’ve been working with him he’s been pretty intelligible. Mom also mentioned he has a hard time socializing, which I would love to work on, but I’m in the home with no other kids around. He spaces out when I use boom cards, and I get it lol. He also doesn’t answer when, who, and why questions.
I guess I feel like this client does need speech in a way, I may work on answering questions with visuals? I hate just “answering questions” goals. Also unfortunately I feel like I can’t even address mom’s main concern since we aren’t around kids, I feel it will be better to work on at school or his center with others around. Any advice? Do I work on “random” (technically appropriate) goals or try to find a way to work on social skills?
