Can I just buy the geothermal bread at Laugarvatn without doing the whole tour

I am planning a drive around the Golden Circle and really want to try the geothermal rye bread from Laugarvatn. But I don't really want to do the full tour where you dig it out of the ground myself. I just want to buy a loaf and maybe some butter and eat it in the car like a happy tourist. Is there a cafe or shop there where you can buy the bread directly. I saw somewhere that the main facility might be closed for renovations right now. Has anyone been there in the last few weeks. Also is the bread actually good or is it more of a novelty thing. I don't want to drive out of my way just for soggy bread.
