Should I start job hunting now or wait until after a planned trip?
Hello! I’m currently employed full-time in a remote role and things are stable. I recently gained the ability to start looking for new job opportunities again (previously I wasn’t able to bc of immigration status), so I’m now considering whether I should begin applying or just stay put for a while longer.
At the same time, I have a very important trip planned this September that I’ve already saved for. It’s something I really don’t want to cancel or stress about since it’s important for my mental reset and well-being.
I’m also a bit hesitant because my family would likely push me to start applying immediately if they knew, which adds another layer of pressure.
So I’m torn between:
- starting to apply for jobs now since I finally can, or
- staying in my current stable job and waiting until after my trip (around 4–5 months from now) before seriously job hunting.
My concern with applying now is the timing, if I get interviews or offers, I’m not sure how to handle bringing up my upcoming trip.
Would it be better to just wait until after my trip when I’m fully available, or start applying now and try to navigate it?
Would really appreciate any advice or experiences from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
