To come out or Not come out
so, i am a 37 year old married bi male. I have had experiences in the past with men but was always ashamed of being bi. I played football (soccer to our American cousins) at a fairly good standard where it is sadly very homophobic and not worth the ridicule. However, fast forward nearly 15 years, 10 year marriage (13 together) and 3 kids, I feel like I am able to make peace with my past and mature enough to accept my sexuality. And I'm f**king proud of it, actually. I have told my Aunt and a close female friend however, not my wife as yet. Though I feel its close.
Over the last few months I have started a lot of grooming, tanning, wearing different colours with no shame, something I have never done. My wife noticed it all and actually liked it. Never knew she liked her men completely shaven all over! Just thought it was the shaven heads! Anyway, a few weeks ago she was in hospital with SVT. I picked her up the next day from the hospital and she started to cry. Saying that she ‘never wants to lose me’ ‘doesn’t want me to run off with anyone else’. I assured her she is my person. The person I chose. Out of 8 billion, she’s the one.
Then, after another night in hospital a few days later, she said ‘Imagine if you came out gay’ so I said I wasn’t gay (which is a half-truth I guess). I also said, ‘I cant imagine we’d be together if I was would we’ Her reply was ‘Why not? We’d still stay together though, right?’. So I said, ‘that’s your decision’. Then the conversation ended. The next morning, she woke up and said ‘I just want you to be happy’ randomly. Now, I am extremely happy and very very content in my life and where I'm at. Good job, good house, amazing wife and kids. Nice car. Only bad thing is Tottenham really. This is niggling away slightly now and after the conversation we had about staying together, I do feel a lot more confident about coming out. However, I'm still very tentative and apprehensive. We haven’t had any conversations about sexuality.
Do I raise it again or sit safely in the knowledge that it MIGHT be accepted? And do I continue to embrace it even if just internally?
