15 Items or Less? Santa Ana Votes on Self-Checkout Limits

The City Council meets tonight to consider an ordinance aimed at retail theft and labor protection.

If passed, large retail stores (like Target, Walgreens, and major grocers) must limit self-checkout to 15 items or fewer and ensure at least one employee is dedicated to supervising the kiosks.

Supporters argue it prevents "under-staffing" and reduces workplace conflict; grocers warn it could lead to longer lines and higher prices.

Closed session starts at 5:00 PM, and the regular open meeting begins at 5:30 PM at City Hall or on YouTube (@CityofSantaAnavideos).
