mono, CFS, burnout – help!

hi, I’m 25F in England, suffering from what I think is glandular fever (mono) for the last 6 weeks since 23rd March. I have a list of all of my ongoing symptoms but I won’t bother putting them here because we’re all familiar lol.

what I’m most concerned about is the extreme fatigue and I feel unable to do anything except lay in bed – and this is 6 weeks into my symptoms developing. I don’t have an official diagnosis of mono because I got tested right at the start of the illness (31st March) and it came back negative. when I pushed for a retest 4 weeks in with ongoing symptoms, the GP agreed but I never got the mono test results, only the full blood count and liver function results, which were both normal.

I am really suffering and the GPs I have spoken to don’t seem to care, as all my test results so far have been “reassuring”; they simply chalk it all up to “post-viral fatigue” and send me on my way with a fit note saying as much for my employer. at one point, around 3 weeks in my fit note ran out and the doctor was supposed to call me to review and perhaps extend the note, but he never did. and so on the Saturday (I work in retail) I went in to work which was a HUGE mistake. by the end of the day my glands had swollen even more and the day after all I could do was lay in bed and cry because I was so exhausted and miserable. since then, I have not gone back to work because I am so scared of feeling like I did that weekend again.

above all I am worried I will develop, or perhaps already have, ME/CFS, but idk if this is just a manifestation of the health anxiety that has developed during this whole process. not being taken seriously by medical professionals really makes you feel kind of crazy. I think maybe I am going crazy.

even without the physical symptoms this is seriously affecting my mental health as I have been mostly housebound for the past month and a half (I am already taking sertraline for depression) and I really can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel :(

what I can do to get the doctor to take me more seriously? bear in mind I live in the UK and I know how overstretched the NHS is so I really need to advocate for myself to make anything happen, and I do really struggle with this. I’m the sort of person who doesn’t like to make a fuss, and I’m autistic so standing up to authority figures is already a huge issue for me lol

also on top of this no one I know irl has gone through something like this and my family and boyfriend I think just expect me to bounce back and to get better but I just can’t do it, it’s like I’ve hit a brick wall. I can’t fake feeling well anymore and I feel so burnt out. I have recently been wondering if some of this could be attributed to autistic burnout too? I have been in my current job for 3 and a half years now and I fear all the work I have done masking and trying to “fit in” with my peers has all caught up to me now, exacerbated by this awful virus. is this possible? should I mention this to the doctor, too? or is that too much information lol

please can anyone give me advice on what to do? there are just so many factors at play, I don’t know how to express all of this to my doctor or anyone at all, and where to go from here. thank you if you read all of this
