Need Advice on USA Tank Choices and Timing

I see so many variations of strats like multi Hellcat or M1 Sherman with upgraded barrel.

However I noticed im usually forced to get a Hellcat first due to its cheaper cost, otherwise I'm getting steamed rolled or im starving for fuel.

In a game where seconds and minutes timing count on when you deploy what, what do you guys do and have success with generally. I tend to skip the Light Tank destroyer and Greyhound, im not good enough to maintain constant micro to keep them alive.
