Public Health Accelerated Master's Program interview?
TL;DR: UT Public Health senior confused about Accelerated Master's Program requirements, interview process, and whether this is actually worth it. Need help from anyone who has done this program.
i am a current UT Austin Public Health major (BS, expected graduation Fall 2026). I recently met with an advisor about the Accelerated Master's Program (the 4+1 track with UTHealth Houston), and felt ok but now i am confused because there is this interview my advisor never told me about that i have to do.
I am hoping someone here has gone through this program or is currently in it and can help me understand a few things.
Here is what I was told:
- I do not need to take 9 hours of upper-division PBH electives
- I will take 2-3 graduate (masters) courses per semester in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
- The program is technically for a certificate, not direct admission to the Master's program
- The certificate credits transfer to UTHealth if I apply for the full Master's later
- Admission to the certificate program does NOT guarantee admission to the Master's program, but my chances are "very high" if I perform well
What I am confused about:
- Is this interview a formality or am I actually being evaluated?
- What should I come prepared with? (Resume? Personal statement? Transcripts?)
- Has anyone done this program and can share their experience? Would you recommend it?
I feel like I am going into this blind and my advisor was not very clear. Any advice, personal experiences, or resources would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
