Questioning if I even have MCAS but idk what else it would even be.
On march 8th of this year I woke up itchy and my arms covered in hives, I was given prednisone for a week and they went away, but other symptoms began to occur such as Flushing where I would get really hot and my face would turn red, itchy skin, and having an itchy mouth and throat. I was also brought to the ER and put on oxygen + given an EpiPen for an anaphylactic episode.
Whenever I would try to eat my mouth and throat would get extremely itchy and I would cough alot. Eventually I dropped 20 lbs due to struggling to eat.
I was so scared and worried and found the best allergist in my area to see and payed out of pocket for my visit.
I left my apartment and stayed with my mom until my allergist appointment and she helped take care of me
But literally the day before my visit my symptoms just disappeared out of thin air.
I stopped having itchy skin, my coughing went away, and my mom convinced me to try gluten free ice cream that I had 0 reaction to after being stuck on chicken and rice.
When I saw the allergist she did an IGE allergy test on me where everything came back normal besides 0.20 for Timothy grass, 0.30 for Ragweed, and 0.50 for cedar.
She also tested my tryptase and my TSH levels which both came back normal.
She told me my symptoms sounded like Mast cell activation and started me on Xyzal (but like I said ky symptoms disappeared before the Xyzal!!)
Right now I'm still on xyzal only half of 5mg but I'm honestly confused.
I can literally eat any food. i can eat fast food I can eat desserts I can eat like most things that are supposed to be high in histamine and feel relatively okay (besides other health issues I have)
I have no idea if I have MCAS because i thought with MCAS you shouldn't be able to eat all of the foods I'm eating and that I could randomly experience a bad reaction at any moment. But I've been free of symptoms for over a month.
My mom has hypothyroidism so I'm wondering if that's my case because my allergist said that thyroid issues can activate mast cells or mimic allergy symptoms but Idk the TSH test was normal.
I'm kind of just lost.
