Dating a guy 23M younger than me 24F and I feel insecure about it.
Hi everyone,
I’m dating a guy who is 7 months younger than me. I really love him and I genuinely want to be with him.
The issue is, I feel insecure about the age difference and I don’t fully understand why. Logically, I know 7 months is nothing, but emotionally it still bothers me and it’s starting to affect how I feel in the relationship.
I’ve always been into older guys, like that’s been my preference (up to around 5 years older), so being with someone younger feels a bit “off” in my head even though he’s great.
What makes it worse is that I feel more insecure when the age difference gets mentioned, even when there’s no bad intention at all.
For example, we were talking about future plans and I said something like “when I’m 35…”, and he replied “and I’ll be 34.” It wasn’t said in a weird way or anything, but it still made me feel uncomfortable and insecure for some reason.
I know it might sound silly, but I can’t really control that feeling and I don’t want it to affect the relationship.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? How do I stop overthinking this?
I’d really like to hear from both girls and guys on this. Thanks in advance.
