Struggling to explain to my Nan what is going on
Hi! First time on this sub, I’m 25 years old and living in the UK. My mum is disabled and has gotten significantly worse in the last few months. I got my diploma, my degree and then went into employment with the hopes of going back to university to get my adult nursing degree.
At the start of the year I explained to my agency everything and have stopped working. I’m now a full time carer for my mum, she’s loosing the ability to walk up the stairs etc, and is loosing most of her independence.
My nanny (my mums mum) just doesn’t get it. She thinks that because she had toe surgery a few weeks ago she’s much better now and I can go back to work, but in reality it’s gotten so bad she can’t bathe herself without my help and is often crying in pain even with max doses of pain killers. I watch her at 3am in the morning on the side of the bed crying, and I can’t do anything about it.
Her back is crumbling away and she has severe nerve issues in her legs plus other medical conditions, but no matter how much I tell her she doesn’t seem to understand how poorly she is. She even said once I’m ’throwing away all my achievements’ which really made me upset. I’m autistic myself, with other learning disabilities and I’m trying my absolute best. We have no other support, it’s just me and her.
I just wish sometimes she would come round and see how bad it truly is. If anyone has any advice for me or if anyone is in a similar position, I would love to hear from you! Thank you 🩷
