Hi all — looking for insight because this progression has been extremely sudden and confusing.

\- 9 y/o female cat  

\- Diagnosed diabetic a few months ago  

\- Initial symptoms: excessive drinking/peeing, ravenous hunger  

\- Glucose readings: 300–400+

\### Treatment phase

Started on Lantus:

\- 2 units BID → partial response

\- Increased to 3 units BID → improvement but still not tightly controlled

Diet:

\- Switched to wet-only diet

\- Eliminated dry food

\---

\### Higher dose phase

\- Increased to 4 units BID

\- Stayed on this dose for \~1 month

\- On this dose:

  \- symptoms were controlled  

  \- no obvious issues  

\---

\### Turning point

After \~1 month on 4 units:

\- Checked glucose and found:

  \- 44 mg/dL

  \- 58 mg/dL

👉 First detected hypo

Gave food/sugar and stopped insulin completely after this

\### What happened next (no insulin from here)

Day 1:

\- A.M: 79  

\- Midday: 85  

\- P.M: 78

Day 2:

\- A.M: 91  

\- P.M (post meal): 121  

\---

Day 3:

\- A.M: 86  

\- Afternoon: 67  

\- Night: 61

\### Extra variable

At one point she stole a full bowl of dry food:

\- Next reading: 129

\- Then later same day dropped to: 86

\---

\### Behavior changes

\- Appetite normalized (no longer ravenous)

\- Not stealing food anymore

\- More calm / normal energy levels

\- Occasionally slightly quiet during lower readings

\### Current situation

\- No insulin for 3+ days

\- Mostly normal glucose (80–120 range)

\- BUT:

  👉 occasional dips into 60s without any insulin

\### My questions

What exactly is happening physiologically?

\- Did the month at 4 units break glucose toxicity?

\- Is this early remission with pancreatic function returning?

\- Why the spontaneous dips into the 60s without insulin?

👉 Are these low dips expected in early remission, or do they suggest something I should adjust (feeding timing, etc.)?
