The **Department of Defense Additive Manufacturing Strategy** outlines a comprehensive framework for integrating **3D printing** into the American military infrastructure to improve **warfighter readiness**.
By transitioning from traditional production to a **digital manufacturing model**, the strategy aims to modernise weapon systems, overcome supply chain hurdles, and enable the rapid fabrication of **obsolete or custom parts**.
The document establishes five primary goals focused on **aligning resources**, advancing technical standards for **qualification and certification**, and expanding workforce expertise across the industrial base.
highlights the importance of a **secure digital thread** to protect intellectual property and ensure the integrity of data transmitted to **forward-deployed units**.
Ultimately, the initiative seeks to foster a more **agile and lethal force** by leveraging innovative design and decentralised production capabilities.
These efforts are supported by **collaborative partnerships** between government agencies, academic institutions, and international allies to maintain a strategic technological advantage.
