Leaving ID / Driver's license at the Gate or Reception

I'm running into more places ( Miami/ S. Fl )that are asking you to leave your DL at the Gate or reception while working at a complex or Condo Apts. Even after registration and providing proof of insurance and workman's comp. Besides being completely inconvenient, I've lost 2 license in less than a year, one I recovered after 3 months but I had already replaced it and been given a new number by the state. If we are working at the same complex for a week it's a question of dropping it off every morning, picking it up midday if you need to go get supplies or materials, surrendering when returning and rushing to leave at a given time so you can pick it up before the security shot change.

Anybody else dealing with this? Any suggestions on work arounds? Is this a deal breaker for most, how do we pass along the time loss to the customer for all this extra admin and aggravation?
