Can I use sphagnum moss for stratifying maple seeds?

A friend gifted me some sugar maple seeds and I want to grow them. I know they require stratification to sprout. I have some spare sphagnum moss from my carnivorous plants, Is it a good idea to use it for stratification or should I stick with the paper towel?
