can anyone give me advice on making new OCs?

Need Feedback or Ideas

since I was around 15 i've had these OCs that were inspired from TV channels, my main one was just a human version of Cartoon network and I've had him for around three years now, but here's the problem. it started getting more complicated and real the more I thought about it and the more real stuff started happening with its downfall, the reaility of it being a corporation, and its cofounder just recently passing away today (RIP Ted Turner). And I'm starting to hate how nothing is in my control, also I wouldn't even consider myself a real CN fan, I never really watched any of their shows so I just bulit off of It's history and personality and there are many thing's I love about that. but there are parts of it I could never really understand because it's still mostly centered around shows I never watched and real people. It's just really hard having a personification of a real thing as an OC, especaly if you're deeply attached to it.

sorry if that was hard to understand I'm thinking of just starting over, with a new batch of OCs that aren't connected to this world, I'm thinking of using inspo from my CN OC as a diving board but putting it in a more fantasy setting, but another problem is, i'm more invested in characters then the story, I do want to make stories but people are always like "put the story before everything else" but I get more engaged with OCs that look cool, and I tend to build the story around that. I've thought about using centaurs because I like non-humans a lot more
