20 years old with $60k saved — looking for advice on my next 3 years
I’m 20 years old, currently in college getting a business administration degree, and trying to set myself up financially early while I still live at home and have low expenses. Right now I make about $52k/year ($25/hr) and currently have around $60k saved between a HYSA and short-term Treasury bills.
My plan is to keep that money mostly untouched as a future house fund and aggressively invest new money into the stock market. I’m planning to invest around $650/week total, including maxing out my Roth IRA, with the rest going into index funds like VOO/VTI for the next 3 years. I’ll also probably get around a 5% raise each year if I stay on my current career path.
I probably won’t buy a house for another 3-5 years. My goal is to take advantage of starting young, build wealth early, avoid lifestyle inflation, and hopefully put myself way ahead financially before I’m 25.
Do you guys think this is a smart plan? Would you do anything differently over the next 3 years if you were in my position? Any advice on balancing cash savings vs investing would be appreciated.
