[US] Strange scam that seems nonsensical

Informational post

Like a year ago, I received an email purporting to have proof ‘my’ husband had cheated and been active on shady dating sites and the like. I gave it a cursory glance and they actually did provide a few pieces of information, registration dates and a couple passwords to add veracity to their scam; of course, they demanded crypto for the rest of the information, or maybe it was to not reveal the rest, I don’t recall. Regardless, they didn’t seem aware that we’d split up a couple years prior, suggesting that their information is outdated, which I mention due to later developments.

Blocked, deleted, forgot about it.

Now I have received another email, same flavor as before, with one account that I don’t remember seeing before revealed, but nothing else different. Is this going to be a yearly thing with this scammer using data breaches and hacks to try add the hint of legitimacy to their scam? I don’t even know how it got past my spam blocker which also seems curious to me.
I guess it’s just the usual crypto scammer trying to extort money out of cheating men/women and/or their spouse (or lucky ex, in my case), but since I can’t find any references to them coming back a second time when they didn’t hit pay dirt the first go ‘round, i thought I would ask the experts.

Why do these scammers come back for a second attempt like this? They keep tabs on accounts that have had a lot of password/account info leaked to get more data to lure in their marks, maybe?
I’ve deleted it and won’t respond, but if anyone has any guidance on the likelihood of this continuing on long term I would appreciate it very much, as I don’t want to give up my long-held email but will if that’s enough to prevent further contact. (One of the accounts revealed cheating I was unaware of from a decade ago and I would prefer to insulate myself against any further gut punches.)
Thank you!
