Been helping our workers study for the GC exam for 2 years
My husband has been a contractor for years, and over time we’ve become a sort of informal go-to resource for anyone on our team who wants to get their license.
I handle the company’s administrative side, so I ended up learning a lot about the process in practice… and I started helping out with studying, paperwork, and things like that.
What I’ve noticed is that almost everyone gets stuck at the same point: the business, law, and finance sections of the exam. Not because they’re dumb, but because they came from the field and never had to think about that stuff formally.
Some things that made a difference:
- breaking down the study by section instead of trying to cover everything at once
- understanding the logic behind the law questions (it’s not about memorizing the law, it’s about understanding the reasoning)
- not neglecting the documentation in advance... that holds more people back than the exam itself
if anyone has questions about the process, I’m happy to help, whether it’s about studying or the paperwork
