Anyone know why a dishwasher soap dispenser latch would release air pressure? Wondering if this is why there is soap residue left on the dishes.

I have an old Maytag QuietSeries 200 dishwasher that stopped working last year until I replaced the latch that opens the dishwasher as well as the main control board (part# W10111825). The dishwasher worked great again at first but now it has been leaving heavy soap residue on things.

I noticed that the dishwasher will not start unless I pull the soap dispenser latch backward a few times before closing the dispenser door, and when I do this, it sounds like air pressure is releasing. It never did this in the past and I've searched and searched for info but Google is useless now and I'm at a loss.

Otherwise, I've tried all of the standard fixes like putting less dishes in, making sure everything is situated right and nothing is blocked. I changed to Great Value powder soap so it does a proper prewash and use Great Value rinse aid, cleaned the dishwasher itself thoroughly, etc., and it's still leaving residue so I'm thinking it might have to do with the air pressure issue.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Did I do something wrong when I put the dishwasher back together after installing the control board? Do I need to switch to a different detergent/rinse aid?

I definitely appreciate any help anyone can give me on this because it's driving me insane.
