Being made redundant/fired

My friend is in middle management and he has been with the company for 10 years. His boss recently decided to out source some of company's work and to push him out. The boss said it is not a redundancy, what are the rights my friend can ask for if it is not redundancy? He has been hitting all his targets monthly and he has no formal warnings of any sort.
