My friend broke my graphics card and refuses to pay me back.

Hi! I am 21F and my friend, or best friend, is 20M. We have been friends for about 6 years. We are both in university, but he is doing a dual-study/part-time program, so he mostly works and only has to go to university every 2 weeks for 2 days.

I go to university every day, and the only money I have is what I get from my parents. Until recently, he was always broke because his parents do not make a lot of money, unlike mine, so I never really had problems with money.

But now he is earning more than the average wage in our country. My boyfriend makes much less money than him, even though my boyfriend has been working for 2 years, while my friend only started working 3 months ago.

We did a lot of things for him over the years. My boyfriend sometimes bought him games because he did not have enough money. A couple of years ago, I got a graphics card from my parents, and since then I upgraded my PC. He needed to buy a new computer, but he did not have enough money, so I lent him my old graphics card.

He used it for 6 months, and one day he told me it was not working anymore. So, not intentionally, but he broke my card. He bought himself a new one, but he does not want to pay me back for the broken card.

Are these things just unlucky and something I should accept, or should I ask him to pay me something for it? Because now he has a lot of money. He just bought a new laptop and a new graphics card, and he wants to buy a new monitor and a new desk too. So technically, he could afford to pay me for the card.
