Has anyone else had mixed or negative experiences with neurodivergent Facebook groups?

💬 general discussion

I’m asking because sometimes I’ll see people post vulnerable things like feeling lonely, hurt, rejected, misunderstood, emotionally overwhelmed, or struggling socially and while I understand people offering different perspectives or explanations, some responses can come across as invalidating, judgmental, dismissive, or even kind of ableist.

Sometimes it feels less like “here’s another perspective” and more like people are treating the person like they’re morally wrong or personally failing for struggling with something. I’ve also seen situations where admins or certain members come across very harshly toward vulnerable posts.

And I guess that’s part of what confuses me sometimes. You would think neurodivergent spaces would naturally feel more understanding since a lot of people there have their own struggles and experiences with feeling misunderstood, but I also understand that not all neurodivergent people think alike or have had the same experiences. So maybe that’s part of it too.

I’m not trying to attack anyone or start drama. I’m genuinely wondering if anyone else has noticed this dynamic or had similar experiences in neurodivergent Facebook communities.
