Pihole tips for a newb?

I'm new to this pihole stuff. i've got it up and running and it seems to be working. . .ish?

currently running hagezi pro and tif, which are apparently redundant? I tried the ultimate list and everything was breaking left and right.

but I seem to still be seeing a lot of ads. lots of good old fashioned banner ads and those "adchoice" things that pretend to give you an option to opt out or close it. I was expecting stuff like that would be an easy lift. It seems like not that long ago my web browsing experience, especially on a phone, was virtually ad free using a basic adblocker extension.

Am I doing something wrong or are my expectations misaligned with reality?

What about those youtube videos (that are years old at this point) claiming to block ads in streaming apps like hulu or prime? I haven't taken a look to test it but I'm guessing those good 'ol days are past.

I'm not all that tech savvy but i can follow instructions! I used chatgpt to help guide me through the setup, so maybe it got something wrong. I've decided that AI chat bots are a giant dumpster fire and there's a huge market bubble and we're heading for a massive recession, because those things get stuff wrong all the god damn time! But that's a discussion for a different sub on another day!
