I’ve been thinking about tornadoes less as “spinning cones” and more as atmospheric creases forming inside layered flow fields.

This poster is an attempt to visualize tornado formation as:

   •   rotational folding,

   •   shear-layer wrinkling,

   •   pressure collapse,

   •   and vortex locking.

The idea came from thinking about how a blanket or sheet behaves when forced downward while under rotational stress — eventually it can’t stay smooth and forms tightening folds and seams.

Some of the concepts I tried to visualize:

   •   inflow/outflow interaction,

   •   rotational tension,

   •   hook echo boundaries,

   •   rear flank downdraft wrapping,

   •   instability hotspots,

   •   and why Dixie Alley tornadoes often stay on the ground longer and grow wider.

This is NOT intended to replace meteorology or radar science.

It’s more of a geometric/topological interpretation layer for visualizing storm structure.

Feedback encouraged!

Especially interested in whether:

   •   crease/fold mechanics,

   •   topology,

   •   or stress-field visualization

have parallels in current tornado research. I call this rendering approach the Dixie Alley Funnel Tunnel.
