do LoR writers need to know you're a reapplicant?

Title. I'm reapplying this cycle and there are a few new people I plan to ask for letters of rec from. However, none of them know that I already applied last year. Is it important to let them know I've applied before when I ask or is it irrelevant? Thanks!
