Xbox scam feeling dumb
Hi I've never purchased something from Facebook marketplace(broke college student). But I got a notification that someone had posted an Xbox series x 1tb for free and decided to look at it. It said something like "celebrating my newborns birth by giving away this Xbox just text the number here with a screenshot of the post saying congratulations". I thought it was weird but wanted to look into it so I texted the number. He asked where I was located I said downtown Chicago and then he asked for my address. I just told him the name address for the dorm I'm staying at and he said he would contact his nearest FedEx office.
He did that and said the shipping fee would be $24. Now this did throw me off a bit but of course FedEx has a shipping fee. I even had the guy send a video of the Xbox before I sent the money. The video was pretty poor quality but it still seemed alright with me and so i sent it. He said he would then go to the FedEx to ship it.
The part that really made me feel like it was a scam was he then sent me another poor quality video and said that he would actually need $36 for a security and protection fee. I just blocked him after he sent that. Did I fall for a scam or was he being genuine?
