[Data Point] Managed to "Buy" 100k Bilt Points for $1,106 (Rakuten 90-100% Back Stack)
Just finished a mini-marathon of the "Rakuten Big Give Week" stack. I couldn't ignore the math on this one. I decided to treat this as a direct purchase of Bilt Points to fund a Business Class trip later this year.
The Inventory:
- Norton Security: $53.99
- LifeLock: $314.99
- Surfshark: $109.47
- NordPass: $66.96
- NordProtect: $119.76
- NordVPN: $83.43
- Incogni: $248.29
- Total Outlay: $1,106.35 (includes some minor taxes/fees)
The Return:
- Total Rakuten Rewards: $996.89 (Currently pending in my account)
- Bilt Conversion: 99,689 Points (switched Rakuten to "Earn Membership Rewards/Bilt")
- Effective Cost per Point: 1.1 cents
The Redemption Plan: Looking at a one-way Business Class seat from the USA to Europe/Asia.
- Retail Cash Price: ~$3,500 - $5,000 for fewer stops.
- My Cost: $1,106.35.
- The Delta: Essentially getting a ~70% discount on a premium cabin seat. If I hit a Bilt "Rent Day" transfer bonus to a partner like Virgin or Air France, that value easily doubles.
Risk Mitigation Steps Taken:
- Tracking: Used a clean browser window(Opera) with all ad-blockers off. Added Rakuten extension to be on safe side.
- The Float: Comfortable with the $1.1k "loan" to Rakuten until the August 15th payout.
- The Exit Strategy: Calendar alerts set for 11 months from today to cancel all auto-renewals.
