Echo Church - Sydney

Apparently women are supposed to be grateful that we’re “not raped anymore,” because now we supposedly “choose” to willingly hand ourselves over completely to the ownership, submission, and service of our husbands.

After coming across the Facebook page “Echo Church Australia Unplugged,” I honestly felt sick reading some of the messages and testimonies being discussed.

The page contains allegations and discussions surrounding teachings preached within the church, including women being told they should submit to and serve their husbands, even when they don’t want to. There are also allegations that Andrew Sedra has preached about a young girl’s “worth” being diminished if she has sex before marriage, while simultaneously placing responsibility on women for “causing” married men to stumble because of tight clothing.

The deeper issue is the mindset underneath it all:
that women are responsible for men’s behaviour,
that a woman’s value is tied to sexual “purity,”
and that obedience and submission are somehow more important than autonomy, safety, identity, or self-worth.

I reached out to the page directly. They explained they are currently in contact with multiple alleged victims and are advocating for people who say they were harmed within the church environment. They also said they welcome further stories, support, and people willing to speak up.

I just watched a video that a woman secretly took when attending their service last Sunday. Sickening and just sad. Why aren’t these people being reported???
