This episode resonated with me somehow
Now, I don't believe I personally know any Barbs around me, nor have I heard those exact words, BUT the way Barb talked to Jen in private felt like something I have definitely heard as a kid.
Things like "You are disappointing" and "You are a bad kid" (which are already bad enough) slowly slide into "Everybody hates you" and "You are never going to get ANYWHERE in life".
I have heard this stuff being said to me, as well as other kids.
I'm not sure if that's only considered normal in my country (India) or globally. Not kidding, in the name of "children need to be disciplined" adults- TEACHERS and PARENTS- say the VILEST shit specifically to hurt the kid.
Do they enjoy seeing people cry? To see them defeated? School kids? They do love their power over the world.
And to say crap to children is one thing, saying it to your adult daughter who's trying everything in her power to not let things fall apart, is next level EVIL. I say this because most people believe you don't mean half the bad things you say to children, but when you talk to an adult, you mean business, and you want the person to know it.
You know she needs you, you know she loves you, and you also know that her baby's name is CHICKIE BLUE! You know EVERYTHING there is and everything that can be done, but you MAKE THE CHOICE of finding ways to secure power over others.
