hello, i was looking for some advice on how to start painting on a canvas. i’m not really like an experienced artist or anything, i don’t know anything about the technicalities of it all, however i have developed this personal style in drawing. i have been drawing on paper this whole time but i want to experiment on a canvas. the thing is that i only draw using a pen and it’s always black and white. i wanted to experiment using a canvas to paint sort of a colored background to draw over, but i really do not know how to begin.

i added some pictures of my drawings to make it easier to understand. i really want to draw my aliens and flowers over a colored background but i dont want like the inside of the aliens to have that background color if that makes sense. so i wasn’t sure if i start with drawing the aliens on the canvas first, then painting around it with color for the background? i’m sorry i really dont know, i was wondering if there is some kind of technique for this or something that i need to understand. i dont really like including color on the aliens themselves, like i just like having them be black and white. also let me know if my style is even compatible with using a canvas to begin with because i honestly dont really know.

thanks so much i appreciate any feedback !
