Silent Screaming
Grief that is silent,
woven through every cell of your body,
is lasting.
Becoming one with your flesh
like an ancient tattoo,
never recognizing the difference,
never giving reprieve
to what life was.
This grief
is now who you are
to the very core
of your breath.
Forever carrying
the memory.
But when the world is still
and the silent screaming begins,
the grasp tightening
around your heart—
at least you know
you are still alive.
