How can I still give my son a good birthday?

Today is my sons 12th birthday,my husband is out of state working,and unfortunately I’m home unable to do anything for him. I feel like such a horrible parent. He’s been excited all week,but we were told when my husband started this new job that they do not do a week hold on your first pay and well lo and behold they did and now he can’t do anything for his birthday. I tried to do a little something at home with what we have but all he wanted was Pokémon for his switch(not it’s not a 2 it’s the original very first model switch that a friend gave him) I tried to tell him that when dad gets paid we will make it up to him but I can still see the disappointment in his eyes and hear it in his voice.
We tried to save up before hand but bills have no grace or kindness.
We tried to get his friend to come over this Friday but he just had gallbladder surgery and can’t.
