Question about exploration

Hello, I would like to buy this game soon so I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Can you explore the world as other characters now? Because I remember that it wasn't worth in the release version.

2. Do you recommend to push the main story first or go to the exploration after prologue?

3. Can I do other side quests as for example Damiane?
