Hello,

My cat, Mio has been missing since May 1st. He was last seen indoors at catsitter's apartment 20:45. A strange long story is below.

TL&DR

My cat went missing strangely in Jönköping, Sweden. I'm suspicious of if someone took him and still holds him. How could he go missing? See pictures.

Some information about him:

He is 3 years old, male and castrated. He is chipped, but does not have a collar, necklace or something. No tracking device on him. He is an indoor cat, with a limited experience( some hours total in his lifetime) being outside in a small garden, or balcony. He lived almost a year before in the apartment that he supposedly escaped from, so he knows the catsitter very well and the apartment. I used to live in that apartment with him for a year.

According to the catsitter, he saw Mio last time 20.45 on Friday evening, indoors just before going to store. He came back 30 minutes later and he didn't see Mio in the apartment. He thought that Mio is just sleeping somewhere because Mio picks the weirdest spots to sleep (check pictures of his bed selection) and just go hidden for a while. So catsitter opened all the doors inside, including cabinet doors, in case Mio slept inside something. Then he went to bed. Next day he wakes up and Mio is still not inside. So he starts searching the apartment, even moves the fridge, bed, sofa, but nothing. Then he goes out to look for Mio but nothing.

On saturday he goes to neighbors and talks to them. According to the neighbors who spent the entire Saturday enjoying the sun, on the same shared garden(see pictures), they claim that they never saw a cat entire day in the garden.

One possible scenario is that catsitter didn't notice but Mio escaped when he opened the door on Friday evening and Mio spent the night outside. While he was outside someone took him, with good or bad intentions. Because it is almost impossible to leave that area for a cat(see the pictures). There are 2 exits on each side, and each exit has 2 very heavy doors that can only be opened by a human, 2 doors with an airlock. So you need to open first and go to next open that one and so on.

The other possible way out from garden is the bars which are 5meter from the ground with no shorter distance to jump at. It's directly to the ground from garden. And he has been in that garden before and has been very cautious, would never jump on purpose. As I said, he is castrated, so he is not motivated to go out and mate other cats.

Also pay attention to the announcement that landlord put on one of the doors which says, cats and dogs are not allowed to be in the garden area. So someone in the building is clearly annoyed by some pets being in the garden and contacted landlord to complain.

We did a deep search around the neighborhood, 500meter-1km radius, put more than 100 posters, talked to local stores, restaurants and such. We contacted local vets, reported missing to the police, put some of my scent outside of the apartment, put his bed under a bush nearby and put some of his food and made sure that only a cat can come in, safe from other animals especially big birds. Searched him with flashlights on. Did all the tricks we can think of, and others suggested. But the thing is, even if he is around, he cannot come back to the garden nor the apartment door, since it is almost impossible to get in.

We talked to a dog owner who does tracking lost animals professionally (the dog is doing the tracking part), and they are coming today to start searching for him. If Mio is trapped in someone's apartment, I hope the dog will detect and react, so we can find him. It's a very tall building with so many apartments having access to this shared garden.

So my question is to all cat lovers in this group, with all the information given, what do you think happened? How did Mio go missing? What shall I do at this point? I just can't think of anything else right now and can't focus on anything else than finding Mio. I am not thinking to stop till I find something about him, is he dead or still alive or trapped at someone's place, is someone taking care of him, whatever it is. All I hope right now is that Mio is doing good but I want to find him.

And if you're someone reading this and living in the neighborhood, your help is greatly appreciated.

In this small world we live in, if you are reading this as the person took him and taking care of him but feel embarrassed to come out now, please don't feel so. All I want is my cat, I will not even ask a single question.

The location of the apartment is Östra Storgatan 86, Jönköping, Sweden.

Please help me find my cat Mio. Disappeared strangely.
