Do we need to worry about bacteria in the enclosure when the meal is rejected?
Hey everyone. I’m still in my first year of ball python parenthood. I have read a lot about how much bacteria are on rodents and that once they are warmed up, that bacteria spreads and spreads. On the occasion that my ball python rejects his meal from the tongs, I typically place it on top of his hide or log for the rest of the night. Sometimes I wake up to find that he ate it, sometimes I don’t. My question is, do I need to worry about sanitizing the area that the thawed and heated mouse was sat on or is that not really a concern? I am worried about bacteria collecting on top of his hide where I place the mice. Sometimes I have found the mouse is moved off his hide and on the ground, so I assume he will slither around it and even on top of it while he is active during the night but still not eat it. So I also worry about bacteria being on his body. My boy lives in a bioactive enclosure if that changes anything. Thanks :)
