Breakfast hack
This feels like sorcery *to me* and I need a place to share it.
Who else out there is a bear in the mornings, ears buzzing while you’re trying to throw nutritious meals together for your also hangry toddler(s)?
I started doing 2 things that have made my life easier, somehow.
-
Kid (2 years) gets an apple the moment they wake up. Pick your poison. Mine chose the apple… every day for the last 8 months.
-
I eat dinner leftovers for breakfast. Today, it was chicken pot pie filling over biscuits — meat, veggies, savory sauce, biscuit. Could be steak and shrimp with rice and veggies, could be guacamole or spaghetti or literally anything. Why this works for me — generally higher protein than standard breakfast items (I cannot get behind “overnight oats” and yogurt bowls in the mornings, or protein powder concoctions. barf. If that’s you, no judgment, it’s just not for me). It’s warm, nourishing, keeps the hanger at bay until sometime after nap time, and then I don’t have to feel burdened by eating leftovers for dinner (which is somehow more barfy than eating them in the morning. What is wrong with me???!)
That’s all. That’s the hack that has made me a happier mother in the mornings.
