Help a Filipina Mother Trapped in Thailand Fight for Her Child
A few months ago, I received a WhatsApp message from a Filipina friend I hadn’t spoken to properly in over a year.
She sounded terrified.
As far as I knew, she had already gone back home to the Philippines with her young son and was finally living peacefully there.
Instead, she told me she was trapped in Thailand.
What was meant to be a short holiday turned into:
• A custody battle over her child
• A criminal complaint
• Threats of losing financial support and housing
She cannot legally work in Thailand.
She does not speak Thai.
And she is now stuck trying to defend herself in court with almost no support system.
According to her, the situation began after the child’s father unexpectedly took the child from her arms and brought him into his former wife’s residence, leading to a confrontation that she believes was later used against her in court proceedings.
She also says the child’s US passport was withheld, preventing her from simply returning home to the Philippines with her son.
What honestly affected me most was hearing the fear in her voice as a mother.
Her biggest concern is that her young child could suddenly be separated from the only primary caregiver he has consistently known since birth.
I know both parties through work and ended up helping her with police reports, immigration issues, and documents because she genuinely felt she had nobody else to turn to here.
I created this fundraiser because I’m simply not in a financial position to fund the legal costs she now faces myself.
If anyone is willing to help, even a very small donation would genuinely assist with legal fees, rent, food, and basic living costs while she fights to protect her child.
And if you cannot donate, even sharing the fundraiser would mean a lot.
