How well/poorly do the tropes of classic high school media reflect actual public high schools?

Kind of more a poll than a question, tbh.

First off, I'm disqualifying both private and boarding schools from this question, since they probably change the dynamic pretty dramatically.

For those of you who have input on the public school experience, I'd like to know stuff like:

- roughly when your experience is from

- roughly the economic status of the school

- how bad bullying was and how it was targeted, as in, was it certain groups consistently, or just whoever the bully decided they disliked? Did anyone ever die or get hospitalized, or was it just name calling and shit?

- how stratified and hierarchical social groups were. like, was there actually a Popular Clique with social influence, or just a bunch of random dudes people mostly got along with? Did groups form along activities and interests (as in, nerds, cheerleaders, jocks, etc) or was it more like just groups of friends who might not do the same activities?

- how shit or fine and experience it was? Just like. general vibes.
