Summer 2026: flying over Russia or layover in Middle East - which one would you choose?

I think the title says it all. For my summer holiday in August/September this year, I'm flying to China from Europe and can either choose to: (i) fly with a Chinese carrier that flies directly but over Russia, or (ii) fly with one of the big ME carriers with a short layover in Abu Dhabi/Dubai/Doha (probably AUH because I would go Etihad).

I have been fundamentally against flying over Russia (not because I'm particulary scared but just don't want to fund them in any way, although the increased drones hitting Moscow is scary too) and chose to fly over the ME last summer, but of course the situation has drastically changed.

Of course no one can predict the future, but if it were your choice right now, which one would you book (prices aside)?
