Thinking about switching doctor’s, am I overthinking?
Hey everyone! I just got started on Adderall XR 10mg on Monday. When I went to the doctor (the practice where I got my diagnosis from does not prescribe unfortunately) I liked him but he didn’t really go over the medication or side effects which kind of put me off. I don’t like the front office there at all either, they have a bit of an attitude and seem to be too busy to follow up.
The doctor got my lab work and drug testing Tuesday evening and posted it to my portal. I heard nothing from the office and my meds were not called in. I messaged them on Thursday, they contacted me Friday past when they closed so when I tried to call back I got an automated voicemail. I was told I had to come in to go over my lab work (which was all normal) before getting started. Doctor ended up calling in my meds Sunday so I scheduled my appointment for the end of the month since that’s when I’ll need a refill anyway.
All this kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I live 45 minutes away and the doctor knows this. I picked this place because I’m moving around that area in August and I thought it would be pointless to get started with a doctor where I’m at now only to move in a few months. I don’t like how I had to reach out for them to follow up and how long it took him to call in my meds. I don’t like that he didn’t go over the medication more with me or the side effects and that he was wanting me to come in to go over lab work that was normal when I live so far. He doesn’t like telehealth either and will only do 1 telehealth a year. I didn’t like that the front office (or the doctor) didn’t just try to get me in at the end of the month, and was going to have me come on this week, then again in another 2-3 weeks for my refill anyway.
When I first called to make my appointment the front office didn’t even ask what it was for and they don’t have a lab on site so I had to go drive 30 minutes to lab corp on a different day. If I was told I had to do all this beforehand I could have did a morning appointment since there’s a lab corp down the street from the office. Could have gotten it all done the same day. I also told them I need mornings going forward and he does afternoon. They were giving me such a hard time about this, the other doctor (who everyone raves about in the reviews) is mornings. I kept getting told “you really need to see this doctor because he’s working with you on your adhd”. I just started? He doesn’t even know anything yet lol. What’s the problem? Anyway, I guess he does 1 morning appointment so they got me in with him again.
I had my therapy appointment yesterday and my psychologist did not like any of this, especially that he didn’t go over the side effects. She was also really hoping he’d start me on Vyvanse and asked me if he stated why the Adderall first? He told me it was the gold standard and she got a look on her face then said “well it used to be”.
I don’t know, I was already feeling kind of meh about this place and her reaction makes me want to stop going. The problem is it’s such a pain to find a pcp that will prescribe adhd meds. I was also self medicating with weed and this place doesn’t care about that when I know others might despite my state being legal. I’m not using it now and since I’m getting medicated I only plan to use it occasionally to unwind/relax on weekends but still, it showed up in my current urine test.
Am I overthinking and worrying about this too much? So far the Adderall is going ok, it’s too early to tell still. I’m only on day 4. I know I could start Vyvanse and it could 100% be the wrong one for me but the other little issues are kind of putting me off a bit.
