How to Correct a Wrong Date of Birth on Your Driving Licence in Rajasthan

Rohan Gupta had obtained his driving licence from the Jaipur RTO back in early 2011. At the time, he submitted every document correctly — his school leaving certificate, birth certificate, and Aadhaar card all clearly showing his date of birth as 7 March 1995. What got printed on the licence, however, was 7 March 1992. A three-year error. He noticed it soon after receiving the card but let it go, thinking it was a minor inconvenience he would deal with later.

Years passed. By late 2023, when Rohan attempted to link his driving licence with his Aadhaar on the Parivahan portal, the system threw a DOB mismatch error. He visited the Jaipur RTO in person in February 2024. Agents and counter staff told him the same thing: there was no process to correct a DOB once the licence had been issued that long ago. He spent weeks getting nowhere.

A colleague suggested he consult Advocate Sudhir Rao. Unlike the general approach of simply visiting the RTO counter, the matter was handled through a formal application backed by an affidavit, original supporting documents, and a legal notice citing the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The RTO, when approached through proper legal channels rather than informal requests, processed the correction within six weeks. The Aadhaar linkage was completed shortly after. The earlier informal attempts had produced nothing; a structured, legally grounded approach made the difference.
