Friendly Reminder: The word "Allegedly" is your friend
It has been brought to the moderators attention that we need to start being careful with how we are wording comments and posts. Now that Britt has been arrested and charges are involved, I need everyone to be extra careful with how things are worded in posts and comments going forward.
Please start using words like “allegedly,” “reportedly,” and “according to court documents” when discussing accusations, charges, or anything that has not been proven in court.
Examples:
- “Britt allegedly did......”
- “According to the arrest report…”
- “The state alleges…”
What we don’t want: Stating accusations as confirmed facts. Claims presented with certainty when they are still part of an active legal process. Wild speculation stated as truth. This isn’t about defending anyone. It’s about protecting the subreddit, protecting yourselves, and keeping discussions within Reddit’s rules and basic common sense territory. Snark is fine. Discussion is fine. Opinions are fine. But none of us are trying to catch a lawsuit because someone forgot the word “allegedly.”
