I built an app that scans pet food and grades it — looking for beta testers (Android only, free)
Hey all. I've been building a side project called Bowlwise for the past few months and it's finally usable enough that I want real pet owners to break it.
The short version: you scan a barcode (or snap a photo of the ingredient list if there's no barcode) and it gives you a score out of 100 plus a breakdown of red/yellow/green flags in plain English. You can also add your pet's profile — age, breed, any health conditions like kidney issues, allergies, diabetes, etc. — and the score adjusts based on what's actually safe for your dog or cat, not just generic.
Why I built it: my dog had a vomiting episode last year and I spent an hour Googling ingredients off the bag trying to figure out which one was the problem. Felt like there had to be a faster way.
What I'm looking for:
- Honest feedback on whether the scores feel right — especially if you have a pet with a condition
- Things that crash, look broken, or feel confusing
- Foods I should add to my dataset
What it is right now:
- Android only (iOS coming later)
- Free during the beta — no ads, no paywall on core scanning
- A premium tier exists for unlimited photo scans + scan history, but you don't need it to test
A few honest caveats:
- The AI gets things wrong sometimes. That's part of why I need testers.
- It's a guide, not a vet — I say this in the app and I'll say it here.
- Closed testing on Play Store, so you'll need to opt in via a link before the install button shows up.
If you want in, comment or DM me and I'll send you the tester link + Play Store URL. Happy to answer questions about how the scoring works, what data I'm using, anything.
Thanks 🐾
