What do you think of streamers who play on easy mode?
I've been paralyzed by fear lately because I've been struggling to find a balance between me playing a game (single player games) how I want to and trying to satisfy viewers. I've watched for years how viewers would be horrible to streamers if they ever dared to use easy mode, mods, DLC perks, or built-in cheat codes - anything that made the game easier. I'm a new streamer myself and honestly, I just want to enjoy games.
I can easily say that I'm not a pro-gamer. And sometimes I like to play on easy mode for a number of reasons:
- Sometimes it's to give me a chance to learn and get used to the controls and mechanics without pressure.
- Sometimes I just want to enjoy the story.
- And sometimes it just because I respect my time and the time of others and don't want to take too long to make progress.
Last night I re-visited a game I tried on stream but struggled with. I started up a new game and tried it again on easy mode and actually enjoyed the game more. I even made more progress than I did on stream and that was in the same amount of time I streamed the game for too.
I'll be honesty and admit that I really don't know what MOST viewers care about when it comes to this subject. I do know that I have some disconnect in this area, since I when I watch others I don't get enjoyment out of seeing them not enjoy a game. But then again, I grew up in a generation that used to use GameShark, Codebreaker, Action Replay, and built-in cheat codes you'd find from some gaming magazine or player's guide, etc. And nobody cared. (I just really told my age, didn't I?)
Is it really so bad for folks to play on easy mode during livestreams?
