What to ask at post-op appointment?
I've recently had a laparoscopy which found endometriosis and my first post-op appointment with my gyno/surgeon is next week.
Basically I'm not sure what questions to ask because I don't know what to ask about what I don't know..... Lol
Are there any particular things that might be essential or helpful for me to make sure I ask/find out about?
I want to make the most of this appointment and feel as informed as possible!!
Some info about me and what I know about my surgery outcomes from my operation summary sheet:
- I'm currently 31yo, was experiencing increasingly painful periods since my late 20s, and right sided ovulation pain since around 30yo to the point of severe pain at ovulation end of 2025. This triggered the gyno investigations and I started the pill but mild dull right side ovary pain continued every 2-3 days.
- Internal ultrasound found polyps in my uterus and pelvic congestion (excess of blood vessels)
- I decided to go ahead with both a hysteroscopy (to remove polyps and insert an iud) and laparoscopy (to investigate possible endometriosis)
- My surgery was in March, and endometriosis was found - bilateral uterosacral ligament and right pararectal - and excised. I don't know the severity or extent of it from the notes.
- hysteroscopy couldn't be completed and iud not inserted because they found my uterus was perforated - and I'm assuming polyps weren't removed either. Don't know how this happened or what it means.
- Now looking back, I don't think I've ever had any major bowel troubles or pain, but it has come to mind that when having sex doggy style I could feel this pressure/discomfort towards my butt (don't know if that sounds weird lol) which I'm now wondering if it was due to the endo...
- re fertility/kids, both me and my husband aren't sure we even ever want kids. But I'd want to be aware of whether it is or isn't an option for me.
Any replies appreciated, thank you! 💓
