Do I need to declare my mental health and medication to the DVLA? (England)
I have ADHD and an anxiety disorder (caused by the ADHD), I’m prescribed medical cannabis and Mirtazapine. I’ve been on the medical cannabis for nearly 3 years and the mirtazapine 10 years.
From looking around, I only need to declare the medical cannabis if it impairs me and/or the condition it’s treating affects my driving ability. I don’t think it does, but I’m not sure how I could prove that.
When filling in insurance details to get quotes, if I tell them I have a condition but DVLA are unaware, my quotes go up approximately £2500. If I make them aware but they don’t put any restrictions in place, prices stay the same as not declaring it. But I’m scared to declare it in case they revoke my license or restrict me in any way, but I don’t want to be fined in case something happens on my motorcycle.
It’s happened in this order because I was originally only getting the medicine for anxiety and only got my ADHD diagnosis lately.
I’m starting driving lessons too, so really need to be sure I’m on the right track before I waste money on lessons, or get a car I can’t afford to insure or ultimately, getting in trouble with the law. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
